Ever since I can remember, each Palm Sunday at church was marked with the song "All Glory, Laud, and Honor". We'd march around the worship space singing all the verses holding our palm branches. I love hearing this song on Palm Sunday so much that I would get up early in college and go to the traditional service at 8:30 am and go to my regular service at 11 am just to make sure I got to hear it. So, for today's posting, as Holy Week begins, I'm posting the lyrics to "All Glory, Laud, and Honor" to pay tribute to one of my favorite hymns of all time as well as remind us all of the suffering that is yet to come.
All Glory, Laud, and Honor
Text: Theodulph of Orleans, 760-821 and John Mason Neale, 1818-1866
Music: Melchior Teschner, 1584-1635
Refrain:
All glory laud and honor to you redeemer, king,
To whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring
You are the kind of Israel and David's royal Son
Now in the Lord's name coming, our King and Blesses One
Refrain
The company of angels are praising you on high;
Creation and all mortals in chorus make reply
Refrain
The mulitide of pilgrims with palms before you went;
Our praise and prayer and anthems before you we present.
Refrain
To you, before your passion, they sang their hymns of praise.
To you, now high exalted, our melody we raise.
Refrain
Their praises you accepted; accept the prayer we bring,
Great author of all goodness, O good and gracious King.
Refrain
